Product Guide
Power resistor
A power resistor is a resistive component selected for dissipation of electrical energy in a specified circuit. Load testing, current limiting and power-electronics duties require resistance, pulse capability and thermal design to be evaluated together. Rated wattage is conditional on the stated mounting and cooling conditions.
Practical purchasing guidance for universities, research laboratories, industry and institutional buyers.
Applications and workflows
Typical workflows help you define the application and compare suitable product configurations.
- Electrical load testing and controlled energy dissipation
- Power-electronics current limiting and load circuits
- Circuit design, current control and signal conditioning
Technical selection criteria
Include these parameters in your inquiry to align laboratory users, technical teams and purchasing.
- Nominal value, tolerance and temperature coefficient
- Power dissipation, thermal design and operating limits
- Pulse energy, duration, repetition and overload limits
- Mounting method, footprint and enclosure fit
Variants and compatibility
Wirewound, film and other power-resistor technologies can differ in inductance, pulse behaviour and temperature coefficient. Chassis-mounted and PCB-mounted versions need different thermal arrangements. Match continuous and transient duty, not nominal wattage alone.
Documentation and delivery
Use the exact part number and revision where available. Compare electrical limits, mechanical interfaces and environmental conditions against the datasheet. Request RoHS/REACH information and applicable conformity evidence; safety-critical use or export eligibility requires separate verification.
Confirm the required documents, packaging and delivery conditions for the selected item and destination.
