Position sensor
A position sensor detects linear or angular position for machine feedback, travel monitoring or controlled motion. Contact and non-contact principles offer different measurement behaviour. Required travel, resolution, repeatability, interface and mounting must be specified; not every position sensor is a rotary encoder.

Linear and rotary sensors, absolute and incremental outputs, and contact or non-contact designs serve different interfaces. Confirm the measurement datum and mechanical travel. Similar housings or connector shapes do not establish identical position feedback.

Use the exact part number and revision where available. Compare electrical limits, mechanical interfaces and environmental conditions against the datasheet. Request RoHS/REACH information and applicable conformity evidence; safety-critical use or export eligibility requires separate verification.
